A Brief History of “A Brief History of Shoegaze”:
In 2003 I was given a great mix CD from a friend named Brandon Capps before he moved to California (I think that’s where he moved to). The CD was called “A Brief History of Shoegazing vol. 1 and 2“. Brandon worked at a Kinkos at the time and used the resources of his creativity and the apparent production power offered by Kinkos to put together a really beautiful package. The ink used was metallic and reflective, the CDs slid into a cardboard sleeve and were covered by a transparent screen. Inside was a track list of 39 amazing songs that defined Shoegaze, a genre I was already very familiar with, but I admit the track listings revealed songs I’d never heard before. This is easily one of the most solid collection of tracks I’d ever been given (or purchased).
The total run time goes beyond 2 hours, so it’s a certainty that all of the songs won’t make it onto the show. I’m guessing I’ll get a few songs into disc 2 before the show ends – but never fear – that’s what podcasts are for. So be sure to download the show on Monday to hear the additional songs that didn’t make it on to the live version of Episode 14.
