We all know how much Jake Ryan hates Nirvana and he also hates Husker Du because they influenced Nirvana. Will another influential force in the life of Kurt Cobain also suffer the same cruel fate? (And I get shit for being the one that hates music!)
I’ve always loved The Vaselines and for what it’s worth, I never heard their influence come through on any of Nirvana’s work. I think Cobain had pretty solid taste in music. So does Kevin Griffin from Better Than Ezra, but like hell am I going to find myself enjoying any of their music. Am I going off on a tangent? The point is, the band you hate/dislike/sort of tolerate may be the product of something you love. I’d say The Vaselines fall into that category.
You know, I’m not even going to go on a tear about who doesn’t like what version of “elevator” music that I listen to. I paid for the domain name… to hell with it. C’mon, kids. Follow me and….
Seattle’s Tea Cozies claim to be fans of Danger Radio. That’s just not good enough. I also require good music. When they contacted us with a claim of sounding like “Elastica + Kim Deal” I was intrigued, yet skeptical… blah blah. They’re great. I really dig them. Download this song now!
No, this is not deja vu. No need to adjust your sets, either. Seeing as how you and I like The Drums so much – and seeing as how we also like One Track Mind – and seeing as how they posted a new song from The Drums… well, we figure two posts about The Drums in a single week isn’t too much, is it?
Behind our shiny, gold-plated doors, Father Guido Sarducci and I have had the wheels turning on an interesting, preposterous little project for five years now. Westword’s Cory Casciato was kind enough to interview us about it, and wrote about it so well that, well, check it out here: “Donnybrook planning a new non-profit hostel for traveling […]
Eric Anderson + a rotating cast of friends make up the Seattle band Cataldo. I don’t think the little kids are in the band (but would likely relate to the unjaded spirit of the songs it if they were). If you’ve sampled and enjoyed my summer mix, you might recognize Cataldo from the handclappy communal […]
Two words. To change your world. To save your life. Would you say them if I told you what they were? Would you believe them and reap the countless benefits they offer? Maybe. I have hope. Thanks to two people. Tracy and my lovely girlfriend. Of all the things I'm ... […]
So what’s indie-mp3 bite size all about then? Simply put it will be a range of short posts in a twitter stylee that enables me to carry on posting when time prevents me from writing a larger piece on indie-mp3. Told you it was simple. Can anyone thing of a better name? I am sure […]
Just last week my friend Jennifer sent me a link from the Afghan Whigs’ Facebook photo gallery, showing Greg Dulli from the early days of his pinnacle band. The picture was sweet and childlike, showing Dulli and photographer Johnny Riggs in a comedic, marital embrace. […]
Guelph – The 27th annual Hillside Festival is in the books, and for the second year in a row the Panic Manual was there amidst the natural beauty of Guelph Lake Island (pictured above), covering the fest from Friday night mainstage opener Beardyman to Sunday night closer Stars. Punctuated with pictures, here are our picks […]
Thai soap sensation Hugo was a guest on my show tonight. He shares a practice space with Your Vegas and Mat told me good things about Hugo's music. The EVR guys set it up so he would perform a song live in the booth, and it was his cool cover version of Jay Z's 99 Problems. His version includes a banjo. We talked about his acting skills, the song h […]
